QuAlsar — Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 25, 2026 · Service provider: QuAlsar
QuAlsar ("we", "the app") respects your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
1. Data We Collect
- Account info: Email address, full name (provided by Google/Apple/email at sign-up).
- Education profile: Country, grade, field/major preference (for personalized content).
- Camera and question photos: Photos you take with the camera or pick from your gallery for question scanning (OCR) and visual solutions — sent only for AI processing to the AI provider selected in the feature you use (Google Gemini, OpenAI/ChatGPT, Anthropic/Claude, xAI/Grok or DeepSeek); not permanently stored on our servers. Camera access is used only when you use this feature.
- Voice input: Voice from microphone is converted to text on-device (Apple/Google native APIs). Audio files are not sent to our servers.
- Usage analytics: Anonymous data such as screens opened, features used and session duration is collected via Firebase Analytics to improve the app. This data does not directly identify you and is not sold for advertising.
- Solution history: AI responses you've used are stored on device + Firebase Firestore (for cross-device sync).
- Leaderboard / location: City + country level (for Knowledge League). Precise GPS location is not collected.
- Device info: Anonymous device ID, OS version, app version (for crash reports).
2. How We Use Your Data
- Generate AI-powered solutions (by querying the selected AI provider — see §3).
- Personalize curriculum and recommendations.
- Operate the Knowledge League ranking system.
- Detect and fix app errors (Firebase Crashlytics).
- Improve the app using anonymous usage analytics (Firebase Analytics).
- Manage premium subscriptions (Google Play Billing).
3. Third-Party Services
We share data with the following trusted services:
Your question photos and text are sent to the relevant AI provider solely to generate that solution. These providers are called through API/business tiers that commit not to use your data to train their models. The default provider is Google Gemini; the others are used only when you select them.
3a. International Data Transfer
The AI and infrastructure providers above may process data on servers outside your country (primarily the United States; if you select DeepSeek, that provider's servers). These transfers happen only to fulfill the solution request you initiate, over encrypted (HTTPS/TLS) connections.
4. Data Retention
- Account info: while account is active.
- Question photos: deleted after processing (not stored on server).
- Solution history: persisted until you delete it.
- Crash reports: 90 days (Firebase default).
5. Children's Privacy
QuAlsar serves students at all education levels, including primary school. Users under 13 must use the app only with the consent and supervision of a parent/guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 without parental consent.
Through the in-app Parent Panel, parents can link a child's account with a linking code, view an activity summary, and request deletion of the child's data at any time (see Account & Data Deletion). For child accounts, we limit collected data to what is necessary to provide the educational service, and never use or sell it for advertising.
6. Your Rights (GDPR & CCPA)
You have the following rights:
- Learn what data we process and why
- Request a copy of your data
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Delete your account (in-app "Delete Account" + all Firestore data wiped)
- Object to data processing
7. Data Security
- All communication is HTTPS/TLS encrypted.
- Firebase Firestore security rules restrict users to their own data.
- AI API calls are routed through a server-side proxy (keys not stored in the APK).
8. Policy Updates
We may update this policy periodically. Significant changes will be announced in-app.
